Back up and running!

Hi there!  If you are reading this message, you know that I was able to get www.baudburn.com back up and running!  The whole process took about 3 days or so (interleaving work and other obligations of course).  I could have got things back up and running much quicker, but since I took the opportunity to completely reinstall my server from scratch, I tried to make good decisions about the applications I installed and the configurations I used.  The result should be an even more stable Linux machine with new lots of new space, a solid configuration, and a much better internal layout.  I am going to attempt to reconfigure all of my computers such that this computer will be the “hub” of my network.  I also am going to be much more anal about how I do things now.  Yes, flatland (that’s the computers name) is no longer my beater box anymore.

That’s all I have for now.  I am sure there are lots of other issues I have yet to deal with, but I thought it would be a good test to post this message.

Major changes comming

Before I begin posting pictures up to my site of the amsterdam trip, I am going to make an effort to update a few things here.  I am going to be making some major internal changes and revamping my linux server.  I should be back up in a day as baudburn.com.

We’re back!

We got back from Amsterdam, Brussels, and Brugges last night.  Its 6:30 and I am wide awake and just sat down here at work becase I could no longer sleep.  Hooray for jet lag!  I took almost 300 pictures of the trip and I will have to work hard to get them all posted.  But until then, lets just say that Brussels was ok, Amsterdam was good, and Brugges was great!

Snowed In!

This morning I woke up to find a sheet of 1 inch thick ice everywhere on the roads.  Being from New York, my first impulse was to jump into my car and go anyway, but then I remembered 2 things:

1)  Texans don't know how to drive - While this has been proven true over and over again, this morning the point was very much reinforced as I watched a guy in a truck (apparently the only way to travel in Texas) repeatedly try to drive up a hill only to get stuck half of the way there.

2)  I may have a job, but I can't afford to buy a new car - I need to save my money for more important things rather than just blowing it on a car.  My 95 ford Contour has been good to me so far and even though it just tipped 100,000 miles, I am hoping that it can keep on kicking for me.  Getting in an accident with a Texan who doesn't know what he/she's doing (Read Point 1), would really ruin my day and budget.

We shall see how the weather holds up.  With any luck I'll be able to make it to work tommorow.  If I don't, and I still can't really go anywhere, I'll end up with cabin fever.

A Momentous Day for me!

Today was a great day for me. I took a step forward in geekdom. Today I began a journey I have not taken before.. to develop a Linux kernel module. While I cannot talk much about the details of it (as unfortunatly it looks like it will not be GPL’d), lets say that it will work with cards on the PCI bus and map memory address spaces. I know this seems trivial to may of you out there, but we all have to start somewhere. So far I have not yet done anything *stupid* that would cause a kernel panic. For this I am glad. I’ll keep you all updated on its progress, (not that anyone out there cares).

Making the move

Seeing as staticky.com has been having troubles as of late, I have moved the site to be a subdomain of pfzt.net.  My new home for the moment is at flatland.pfzt.net and hopefully will stay there for a while.  I have been slacking on updates to the site because I have been very busy.  I am currently working on some very cool stuff, but it takes alot of my time.  I will hopefully get back into the swing of things shortly.  Bear with me (not that anyone reads this site), but I will get my cryptography section up soon.

Yet More Site Updates

Another day, more site updates.  Today I added a short “About Me” section that quickly discusses where I came from and who I am.  I have also added a photo gallery to my site that I hope to populate with pictures if I ever can afford a good digital camera.  As for this weekend, I put in Barbara's new audio system.  Its very exciting and at some point in the near future I will add pictures and descriptions here.  Now all thats left is the door speakers and running the new wire.  But I digress…

Flat Tires Suck…

Today I was leaving my apartment complex only to notice that I had a flat tire.  Thats never fun.  Tommorow I guess I'll have to waste money buying new tires.  If it's not one thing its another.  Funny how that works out.  Annoying.

New Content and SQL ERROR fix

Tonight I finished off my computer architecture section.  It now contains some papers that I have written on the topics of computer architecture and microprocessor design.  These are all in pdf for nice cross platform capability!  In addition I was able to track down the source of the random SQL error that was poping up in some of my pages.

Buy my stuff!

Buy my stuff!! I am selling a brand new 6-CD in dash changer.  This was taken out of my girlfriends 2003 WRX (That had 36 miles on it at the time of removal).  More details Here
